Cancelled

Hello friends. Unfortunately, the venue has cancelled with us for our “Monk and the Nun” event that was supposed to run on the 13th of August. We have tried to find another venue but are unable to find anything suitable so close to the time. We’ll be sending out refunds ASAP (they take about 5 days to process with the ticket company). Since several acts have already booked their transport from abroad, we will be organizing a few events around to accommodate them, so keep your eyes peeled. We’ll now be putting on Paddy Steer at another Leitrim location on the same night at a private event. Message if you would like more info. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

LINE-UP

PADDY STEER (MANCHESTER)

Paddy steer

Every generation has it’s innovators, inventors and visionary composers. Moondog, James Brown, Sun Ra, Derek May, Suicide and many more. Picking up where they left off, Paddy Steer has constructed his own cosmos through self-made instruments, space armour and psychic energy blasts. This is dance music from a distance galaxy.

GRAHAM DUNNING (LONDON)

Graham’s background is in experimental music. He uses experimentation and play as a main part of his making process. Noise – as unwanted sound like record crackle or tape hiss – often features in his work. He played at Raw Power in London in May 2016 before his Irish “debut” in Leitrim, which could be dronetastic.“I really like repetitive music, but you need to have some variation.” Listen and watch

SCHOOL TOUR (DONEGAL)

school tour

A star burns high in the north most westerly point of Ireland. A combination of confused pop rhythms, distorted ambience and gothic lust. The tall electronic figure known as School Tour pounds out pulsing lights, ghostly sighs and psychedelic rot with the erotic force of a black leather boot.

CATHAL ROCHE (SLIGO)

Cathal Roche

Sligo-based saxophonist, composer and Jazz fiend, Cathal Roche lingers and haunts his way around the fringes of contemporary music leaving bland and sterile techniques behind, instead filling his projects with joy and nurture.

SAM BURKE (LEITRIM)

Sam Burke

Raised on a heavy, self-inflicted diet of Motorhead, Jethro Tull and popular music from the 1500s, Sam Burke will be performing a selection of hurdy-gurdy tunes from his enormous repertoire of early music with a few sustained drones thrown in for good measure.

MCEVOY/KIMOVIC/CLUTTERBUCK/DOHERTY (DUBLIN/S. KOREA/UK/DERRY)

McEvoy Sexytet

Chaotic synthesis, voice, guitar and violin quartet exploring the shared and incongruous sonorities of acoustic and electronic instrumentation. Detached and ultra minimalist.

DAVID COLOHAN (SOUTH LONGFORD)

Dave Colohan

Isolated beings hidden away in cavernous places, worshiping the stars, the land and the water have been known to create some wonderful sounds as they rummage through sticks, bones, skulls and things found on the forest floor. Summoning the ever healing powers of freedom and the responsibilities that come with that frame of mind, David Colohan is the Lord of such realms.

BIRD PEOPLE (AUSTRIA)

943595_546139518771607_1017724048_n

If Bird People was a constellation in the sky, one star would host endless Grateful Dead concerts, another would be wrapped in Beat writers and a third would be full of musicians playing on back porches. Had there been a weirdo music tent at Woodstock, Bird People would have played three shows a day there.

JORGE BOEHRINGER (USA/UK) & AILBHE NIC OIREACHTAIGH (WICKLOW)

ailbhe

Core-of-the-Coalman-800x580

Could this be the first viola-off in the history of the viola? Jorge and Ailbhe don’t know each other nor will they meet face-to-face before this viola-fueled madness. Jorge is best known as Core of the Coalman and Ailbhe has played in Cian Nugent’s Cosmos, in Josephine Foster’s the Supposed, toured with Cirque des Yeux and has most recently been snatched up by Woven Skull. In fact, Jorge too has played in Woven Skull. What’s up with that?

WILLIE STEWART & FERGUS CULLEN (LEITRIM/DUBLIN)

12719448_504910176382160_6931387565364653209_o

When I’m in a room where Fergus and Willie are playing, I’m constantly dodging and ducking. It’s either bits of drums falling over the place or else it’s saxophone notes flying at me from all angles.

QUEEF! (PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CORK)

11164877_869526593107212_1003480050745779513_o

Queef! fumble with tables full of detritus, troll dolls, slinkies and tape measures spooling out oddly domestic personal rituals. Totally heavy winding, tinkling, scraping and too much confusion to get your nut around. I felt like running around the room and hi-fiving people after the first time I saw ‘em.

CORE OF THE COALMAN (TEXAS/HUDDERSFIELD)

2680717

Core of the Coalman, the solo project of sound artist Jorge Boehringer, consists of continuity and discontinuity for viola, voice and circuits on the border between order and chaos. Sonically diverse and at times explosive in texture, Core of the Coalman emphasizes the physicality of sound in its synesthetic relationships between ear, mind, and environment.

AINE O’DWYER (LIMERICK/LONDON)

There are times when you lose a little bit of yourself in improvisation,” she says. “You’re dealing with your own kind of memory paths through music, and there’s a transmission there that’s going on. There’s lots of different states you can go into, different levels of consciousness, different levels of awareness. Sometimes you end up playing something and you don’t know what the hell happened there. It’s only when you go back later that you find out what was happening. It is definitely a meditation, whatever way you look at it.” (Lifted from an Irish Times interview Ian Maleney did with Aine in January 2015)

MORNING VEILS (PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CORK)

Morning Veils create music that branches out from the folk tradition into more experimental territories. Their songs, simultaneously mournful and tumultuous, played on guitars, keyboards and harmonium, waltz between the gritty and the hymnal. Have a listen of ‘Her Kind,’ a 13-track album recorded with Dan Walsh at The Lodge, Cork.

+dult+ (WEST OF IRELAND)

+dult+ is an audio/visual/performance project meditating on dark mysticism, medievalism and the macabre. Inspired by Irish mythology, old ritual and nature, it draws its energy from the inherent esoteric elements in all that is ancient and wild, sacred and savage. Last seen/heard at the Siege of Limerick in March 2016.

GLOCKE & AAA (PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CORK)

23269956083_5632894894_b

Dave Murphy & Vicky Langan are the uncompromising duo of DJs, Glocke & AAA. Delving deep into their collections to play nearly every genre of music known to the human race, everything from Necromantic Disco to Free Jazz to Central American field recordings.

JAMIE SKINNY WOLVES (DUBLIN)

Jamie is part of Skinny Wolves, Dublin-based purveyors and lovers of independent record culture and all that surrounds it. They bury themselves in, amongst other things, releasing records and booking events for the bands they love and playing music from the records they love. Inspired by music from the Post-Punk, No/New-wave, Krautrock eras and everything it has inspired and influenced since, they have helped forge a new DIY underground in their hometown.
